Hi Ai #3: ChatGPT's Price, Google Code Red, Bots better than MBAs

Welcome to Hi Ai, a weekly newsletter keeping you informed on the latest consumer-facing developments in the AI world so you can use the latest tech to start or build your own business.

ChatGPT Pro Costs $42/mo

ChatGPT Pro is beginning to be offered to select users at 42$/mo. For this price you get:

  • Faster response speed

  • More reliable access (read: you'll always have access)

  • Priority access to new features

However, it's not yet available to purchase. Random users, who seem to be chosen for their frequent use of ChatGPT, have been offered the Pro subscription.

Why this matters: As we mentioned in the last edition, we'll keep you informed as pricing develops and rolls out to all users. ChatGPT Pro is expensive, so you'll have to carefully consider whether you're ready to shell out $42/mo for it. Our two cents: if you're a power user, 42 bucks a month is a small price to pay for the work ChatGPT Pro can do for you.

Google is in Panic Mode

Google's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have returned to the company to tackle ChatGPT. The founders, who stepped away from their daily tasks three years ago, met with Google executives last month to review the company's artificial intelligence strategy and come up with ways to incorporate more chatbot features into the search engine. CEO Sundar Pichai has declared a "code red" in response to this new A.I. technology, and Google is now planning to roll out over 20 new products and demonstrate a version of the search engine with chatbot features later this year.

Why this matters: This could potentially lead to a new and more efficient way for you to search for information on the internet, and also to get more accurate and personalised results. Competition is always good for the consumer.

ChatBots are Outperforming MBA Students

OpenAI is causing concerns among business schools and MBA programs. ChatGPT has been found to outperform MBA students in core subject areas, such as operations management. Professor Christian Terwiesch of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Business School tested ChatGPT's abilities and found that it would have received a B to B- grade on his exam. This has led to calls for a reconsideration of business school education and curriculum. The chatbot has also sparked concerns that students will use it to cheat in their essays and exams, leading some to call for clear disclosure policies in class on whether students have used ChatGPT, and for mitigation measures such as going back to handwritten work and in-class discussions. Honestly, we're not sure if this says more about MBA students or chatbots.

While some schools are concerned, the University of South Australia is actually starting to explicitly allow the usage of artificial intelligence if properly disclosed.

Struggling to Sell your AI to businesses? Keep it simple!

Selling AI solutions to business leaders can be a challenging task, but there are ways to make it more effective. It is important to practice "cognitive courtesy" by explaining difficult technical concepts in plain English and creating a clear vision for the project that all participants can understand. A vision articulated in this way should answer the question of "whose life is going to get better, by how much and how do we know that?" Additionally, having a clear and simple explanation of the business case and understanding customer sentiment can be valuable in the decision-making process.

Why this matters: By following these best practices, it will be easier to sell AI solutions to business leaders and help them understand the benefits it can bring to their business. Keep it simple.

Business Idea of the Week

Online Courses on AI Applications

Didn't you always want to be one of those fake online gurus that make more money by selling courses about business rather than just the business itself? Here is your chance:

One potential business idea is creating online courses that teach individuals and organizations how to properly apply artificial intelligence and make use of all its capabilities. By providing clear, practical information and hands-on experience, these courses can help bridge the gap between the technical aspects of AI and its practical applications in various industries. This can be a highly profitable venture as businesses are eager to understand and implement AI in order to improve their operations and increase revenue. Targeting a wide range of audiences, including business leaders, data scientists, and software developers, can help reach a larger number of individuals and make the course more versatile. These courses can be a valuable tool for businesses and individuals looking to stay competitive in today's market. And boy oh boy, don't let me get started on profit margins for digital products...

Tool of the Week

Konjer

Admit it! You hate reading but love the value a book provides. Why don't you just talk to the books? Konjer allows you to chat with books about their most valuable information or have a problem solved by the frameworks the bot has learned while being trained on the book's content. They offer a great variety of books of all genres. Some of our personal favorites in the business category include:

  • The Lean Startup by Eric Ries

  • Zero to One by Peter Thiel

  • The Mom Test by Rob Fitzpatrick

Picture of the Week

For our DALLE-2 picture of the week, we have once again browsed through the never-ending realms of the internet and after hours of research, found what we were looking for. This time, there is no specific prompt for it since it is the result of merging several AI-generated pictures together. But major kudos to Reddit user u/mysteryguitarm for creating this masterpiece showing Leonardo DaVinci panting the Mona Lisa!
